Balblair 90 & anCnoc 18y

Lately I discovered two delicious aged Single Malt Scotch Whiskys, which I want to tell you more about.

First the Balblair 90 2nd release which aged for 21 years in bourbon casks and for the last 2 years in Oloroso sherry casks. Released to replace the award-winning 1989 Vintage, this incredible dram is sure to become a firm favourite amongst Balblair fans and whisky connoisseurs.

Tasting Notes

Appearance
The valuable liquid shines in deep copper with hints of sparkling amber.

Aroma
The aroma is spicy yet sweet and is punctuated with notes of raisins, toffee and honey. Hints of vanilla, chocolate and citrus fruits are also present.

Palate
On the palate it is full bodied; sweet and spicy in character with hints of honey, raisins and zesty fruits.

Finish
The finish is smooth and long-lasting.

Second the anCnoc 18y has matured in Spanish oak ex-sherry casks and American oak ex-bourbon barrels and has been bottled in its most natural form, neither chill-filtered nor coloured.  As a result this dram may develop a light haze with the addition of water or if kept at a cold temperature. This haze is a natural characteristic of whisky that is non chill-filtered.

Tasting Notes

Appearance
Golden amber, hints of citrus orange...

Aroma
Gentle spices and intense sweetness of dried fruits are topped with darc chocolate and some oily leather

Palate
Full-bodied and bold, aromatic spices, fruity and also sweet vanilla

Finish
The finish transforms from peppery and hot to deliciously sweet and smooth.

"Two gems in the broad field of excellent Single Malt Scotch Whiskeys!"
